Wed, 24 Mar 2004 personal update... This past week has been very good and very full, and this week is the same, only different. Last week we had the joy of having an old friend as a house guest. Some of you know her from France - Jeannette Laurens. She brought her oldest daughter Emilie and two nephews to visit BJU. It was great to see them and to show them around campus. This week is our annual Bible Conference, and so far it's been very good. Today's quotation is from Les Ollila's message Monday morning. *** After talking with a friend the other day about being as happy as we choose to be, I remembered something in my files that I thought would be a good thing to send to y'all. It's a good reminder. *** "What you'll one day be, you are becoming now, one choice at a time." - Les Ollila *** When the only tool you own is a hammer, every problem begins to look like a nail. ATTITUDE A 92-year-old, poised, petite lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably coifed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet curtains that had been hung on her window. "I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy. "Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room yet ... just wait." "That doesn't have anything to do with it," she replied. "Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged ... it's how I arrange my mind. I've already decided to love it. It's a decision I have to make every morning when I wake up." What attitude have you decided to have today? |
