Luena A. Barker
Adrian, Mich.

The Lord called Luena home Jan. 20, 2007.

She was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Fairfield Township, Lenawee County, Michigan to Louis E. Barker and Edna Reed Barker Routson, in the house her grandfather, Irvin E. Reed, built. She graduated from Wayne High School in 1941, living with an Uncle, Rev. Ralph L. Reed. After graduating, she worked in child evangelism for two years, going to Detroit elementary schools and various other areas. Luena entered Bob Jones College, Cleveland, Tennessee in the fall of 1943-44. She continued working two more years while attending Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC to complete her BA degree in education in 1949. She remained there and worked as a dorm supervisor assistant Dean of Women, and the last 17 years as Dean of Women, retiring May of 1994. She loved the young people with all her heart and wanted God's will for them. After retirement, she came back to her Michigan family, serving wherever needed. Luena loved and served the Lord in many quiet ways. We will dearly miss her.

Luena leaves behind a brother, Elwyn Barker of Fowlerville, MI; sister, Mary Barker of Adrian; two beloved nephews, Hugh (Barb) Barker of Lansing, MI; Keith (Sue) Barker of Gregory, MI; great and great-great-nieces and nephews, and many cousins. She was honorary grandma, especially to Ron (Janice) Allen, and Don (Lori) Allen's children: Jonathan, Jessica, Jordon, Jennifer L., Matthew, David, and Jennifer M. Preceding her in death was her father, mother, stepfather, William Routson; brother, John; and stepbrothers, George and Paul Routson.

Funeral services for Luena will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Wagley Funeral Home, with Rev. Ron Allen, Rev. Mark Smith, and Dr. Bob Jones III officiating. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Leuna may be made to Bob Jones University or Weston United Methodist Church. Envelopes are available at the Wagley Funeral Home.
